Custom packaging is any box, bag, pouch or wrap made to your product's dimensions and printed with your brand. Instead of buying a stock brown box and adding a sticker, you choose the structure (how the box is built and opens), the material (corrugated, paperboard, rigid board, kraft or film), the print (from one color to full color inside and out) and the finishes (matte, gloss, soft-touch, foil, embossing, spot UV and windows). The result fits your product, protects it in transit and tells customers who you are before they open it.
CustomPacka exists to make that process simple for growing brands in the United States. You tell us what you sell, how many units you need and how you ship. We recommend the right structure and board, prepare a free dieline and 3D proof, quote every line item, and deliver finished packaging to your door. Every price on this site comes from the same published pricing model you can explore in our cost calculator, so you can budget before you ever talk to us.
Which box style do you need?
There are hundreds of box structures, but most brands only need to choose between a handful. Start with how your product travels and where customers first see it.
| If you… | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ship orders direct to customers | Mailer boxes | Self-locking corrugated, strong enough for parcel networks, printable inside and out |
| Ship heavy or multi-item orders | Shipping boxes | Regular slotted cartons with taped flaps, the most efficient corrugated format |
| Sell on a retail shelf | Product boxes and tuck end boxes | Paperboard cartons with crisp print, flat-packed for low freight |
| Need a heavier retail carton | Auto-lock bottom boxes | Crash-lock base that pops open and carries more weight |
| Want a luxury reveal | Rigid boxes or magnetic closure boxes | Thick greyboard wrapped in printed paper, kept for years |
| Sell food, coffee or supplements | Stand-up pouches | Barrier films, zippers and degassing valves in a light format |
| Need display at the counter | Display boxes | Tear-away lids and tiered fronts that merchandise products |
Not sure? The Box Size Finder recommends styles and sizes from your product dimensions, and our specialists will confirm the choice in your quote.
Materials that match the job
The material decides how strong your box is, how print looks and how it feels in the hand.
- Corrugated cardboard is fluted board between liners. E-flute (about 1/16 in) is the e-commerce favorite: strong, light and smooth enough for sharp print. B- and C-flute carry heavier loads.
- SBS paperboard is bright white, solid board for retail cartons with photographic print.
- Kraft paperboard is unbleached, strong and natural-looking, a favorite for organic and minimal brands.
- Rigid chipboard is thick greyboard (about 1.5–3 mm) wrapped in printed paper for gift and luxury boxes.
- Recycled paperboard is economical board made from recovered fiber.
- Flexible films make pouches with barrier properties for food and powders.
Printing and finishes that earn attention
Most custom boxes are printed in CMYK (full color) using digital or offset lithography, while large corrugated runs use flexographic printing. Brand colors can be matched with Pantone spot inks. Finishes then add the tactile layer customers remember:
- Coatings and laminations: matte, gloss or soft-touch protection
- Foil stamping: metallic gold, silver, rose gold or holographic accents
- Embossing and debossing: raised or pressed logos you can feel
- Spot UV: glossy highlights on a matte surface
- Window patching: a die-cut window to show the product
- Interior printing: a printed reveal under the lid
- Custom inserts: fitted trays that hold products in place
A good rule: choose one hero finish and spend the rest of the budget on print quality and structure. Our finishes matrix compares cost, effect and recyclability side by side.
What custom boxes cost
Price per box depends on size, material, print coverage, finishes and above all quantity. Fixed setup costs are spread across every unit, so prices fall steeply between 100 and 1,000 boxes and keep falling more slowly after that.
As a rough guide from our published model, a full-color 9 × 6 × 3 in E-flute mailer typically costs a few dollars per box at a few hundred units and well under that at a few thousand. The table on our pricing page lists estimated unit prices for every style at quantities from 100 to 10,000, and each product page shows live price breaks for its most popular size. Your written quote confirms the exact number before anything is produced.
How ordering works
- Request a quote. Tell us your product, size, quantity and timing, or send a design from the 3D Box Builder. Most quotes go out within one business day.
- Free design support. We send a dieline for your exact size. Our designers check your artwork for free, or help you build it.
- Approve your proof. You get a digital proof and a 3D preview of your real artwork. Nothing prints until you approve it.
- Production and quality checks. Typical production is 10–14 business days after proof approval (rigid boxes 12–16), with checks on color, cutting and gluing.
- Delivery. Boxes ship flat (rigid boxes ship assembled) to any address in the contiguous US, usually in 3–7 business days, with tracking.
Read the full how it works page, or order a sample kit first if you want to feel the boards and finishes.

Sustainable choices, honestly described
Most of what we make is paper-based and widely recyclable in the US. We help brands right-size boxes, replace plastic inserts with paperboard or molded pulp, use recycled content where performance allows and print clear disposal instructions. We do not make vague "eco-friendly" claims; we help you make specific, accurate ones in line with the FTC Green Guides. Read our sustainability approach and the sustainable packaging guide.

Custom packaging questions, answered
What is the minimum order for custom boxes?
Most box styles start at 100 units, including mailer, shipping, rigid and magnetic boxes. Paperboard cartons such as tuck end and auto-lock boxes start at 250 units, and some specialty formats are higher. Each product page lists its minimum.
How long does custom packaging take?
Typical production is 10–14 business days after you approve the proof (rigid boxes 12–16), plus 3–7 business days shipping within the contiguous US. Quotes usually arrive within one business day and proofs within one to two.
Do you offer free design help?
Yes. We send a free dieline for your exact size, check your artwork for print problems and provide a free digital and 3D proof. Our designers can also help adapt your logo and brand into a packaging design.
Can I get a sample before ordering?
Yes. Choose a sample kit of stock styles and finishes, a plain structural sample in your size, or a custom printed pre-production sample of your design.
Do you ship across the United States?
Yes. We deliver to businesses and homes across the contiguous United States with tracking. Alaska, Hawaii and expedited freight are quoted separately.
How do I get an exact price?
Use the quote form with your box style, size, material, print and quantity. A specialist confirms the details and sends an itemized quote, usually within one business day.
Are your boxes recyclable?
Most paper-based boxes we produce, including corrugated mailers, paperboard cartons and kraft boxes, are recyclable in curbside programs across the US. Large plastic laminations, magnets and foam inserts change that, and we will tell you when a choice affects recyclability.
